Meeting Description: Utilizing Network Attached Storage for real-time video playback and editing within the broadcasting industry has been problematic at best and non-functional at worst. Implementations of SAMBA, SMB, and CIFS file storage solutions do not allow for full wire speed transfers due to network topology; produces high processor utilization (exception utilizing TCP Offload Engine (TOE)), provides small payload frame sizes (1500bits native), and non-guaranteed frame sequencing (buffering = delays). These issues are only some of the current issues faced by storage manufacturers. Isilon’s solution reduces network latencies by utilizing symmetric multiprocessing clusters that enable high aggregated bandwidth, superior transactional performance, and mission-critical reliability. OneFS operating system distributes and intelligently stripes data across all nodes in a cluster to create a single shared pool of storage. Accelerator nodes provide access to the IQ cluster utilizing 10 Gbps Ethernet networks. Scales up to 10.4 petabytes at 45 GBps aggregate throughput for direct ingest, edit in-place, and play out.
